Meet Ceri! (an associate photographer Q + A)

Ceri is the newest addition to the Celisia Stanton Photography team and we’re THRILLED to have her :). Ceri first joined my team as a second shooter during the 2021 wedding season, and I immediately knew I wanted her to become an associate! What stands out about Ceri right away is how ridiculously kind she is. You really can’t help but feel great when your around her. She’s the best hype woman, the perfect helper, and the ideal team player. Ceri is also great with parents and family, and loves connecting with your most special guests. Ceri is also exceptional at giving clear direction, so you’re sure to feel comfortable in front of the camera!

Check out Ceri’s Q+A below, and when you’re done you can see her full associate portfolio here.

How long have you been a photographer?

I’ve always been intrigued by photography and held my first film camera in art class in high school. Ever since then, I’ve been hooked!

Tell us about your journey in photography so far! How long have you been a photographer? How many weddings have you shot? What have you learned along the way?

In 2008 I changed career paths and chose to follow my heart and pursue my love of photography. I moved to Minneapolis to attend school for photography and was fortunate to learn from some really great instructors.  Since then I have had the pleasure of photographing a little bit of everything – weddings, families, seniors, and corporate teams and events. Weddings have my heart and I feel so fortunate to be able to document such an important day.

My wedding experience began in 2010 and my experience allows me to stay calm in moments of stress. I approach every wedding with the intention of making sure that my couple feels supported and valued.

What’s your favorite part of being an associate for Celisia Stanton Photography?

My most favorite and most important reason for associate shooting for Celisia? That’s easy to share. I love the relationships that Celisia builds with her clients, and I love being able to be of service to really amazing humans. I believe that like attracts like and the clients that believe in the work that Celisia does are my kind of people.

It is such an honor to be a part of an incredibly kind and inclusive company.

What’s your favorite part of a wedding day to capture?

Honestly, I love it all. I’m there to document your day and to capture moments that you may not even know are happening. But if I had to choose, my favorite time is either the first look or when we get to sneak away from your celebration and take sunset photos of just you and your partner. It’s that quiet excitement of realizing that you get to officially spend the rest of your life with this totally rad and perfect for you human.

What’s your go-to wedding day advice for soon to be married couples?

Make time to enjoy each other. Your wedding day will fly by and I believe it is important to make space in your timeline for just you and your partner. You’ll want to have time to enjoy the fact that you are starting an amazing adventure together and not feel like you’re rushing from one thing to another. Take time to really experience your wedding day.

What would you say to a couple who is nervous about having their picture taken?

Breathe. Almost everyone feels uncomfortable or nervous in front of the camera and my job is to make sure that we can create images that capture you and your partner in a fun and authentic way. My goal for each portrait session is to have fun and have you feel like you weren’t just having your photo taken, but having a really awesome experience.

Are you a cat person, dog person, or neither? Why?

I’m a cat mom to two adorable kitties, so I’m definitely partial to cats. My in-laws have a very handsome English Mastiff that is the most gentle dog you could ever meet. Don’t make me choose!

  1. […] Shanita + Greg opted for a less-traditional day with a beautiful and intimate brunch wedding at Aster Cafe. Shanita was born in the Caribbean, and grew up primarily in Michigan, while Greg was born and raised in St. Paul. Luckily, these lovebirds found one another, and Greg proposed in the fall of 2020 while camping in Northern Minnesota. When looking for photography, Shanita and Greg really wanted the photos to help them relive the energy of their day. Preserving in-between moments is central to my team’s approach, and my associate Ceri did a fabulous job at capturing every cheerful, warm, emotional moment!
