This comes up all the time, and it's one of my favorite things to talk through with clients before a session. Whether it's a teenager who feels awkward in front of a camera, a couple who hasn't taken photos together since their high school senior pics, or someone who just doesn't love how they look in pictures, I've worked with all of it and I promise you're in good company. What actually makes a photo feel natural isn't confidence walking in. It's having someone guiding you the whole time, telling you where to put your hands, giving you something to actually do instead of just "smile." It's also catching the moments in between the posed ones, since those are usually the best shots anyway. My goal is for you to feel like yourself in front of the camera rather than performing for it. If that doesn't happen, that's on me to fix, not something you need to worry about walking in.

I could talk about outfits all day, but here's the short version: aim to coordinate, not match. If everyone's wearing the exact same color, it actually flattens the photo instead of pulling it together. What works so much better is picking one dominant color per person and letting a few accent pieces tie everyone together, so each person still looks like themselves. As for the palette itself, softer and lighter tones tend to photograph the most beautifully, things like blush, muted blue, gray, cream, and warm neutrals. Bold color isn't off the table if that's genuinely you, it's just something to be intentional about rather than defaulting to. We've got a whole bag of tricks for this, and it varies by age. For little ones, having a favorite toy or snack on hand goes a long way, and so does giving them something to look forward to once we're done (ice cream after the session is a client favorite). It gives them a reason to hang in there a little longer when they start to wiggle. For babies and infants, I actually recommend booking a longer session, like 90 minutes, so we have room to pause for a feed or a diaper change without feeling rushed. My team and I bring fun prompts suited to whatever age group we're working with, so however your kid is feeling that day, we've got something in our back pocket to try.

Of course! Just bring along a second person to handle your pet during any parts of the session they're not actively in, and there's no extra charge for including them. There's no limit on how many pets you can bring, but keep in mind the more pets in the mix, the more there is to juggle, so it can be worth thinking through logistics ahead of time. A lot of clients get the photos with their dog done early in the session, then have their extra set of hands take the pup for a walk while we focus on the rest, though it works just as well flipped around. And of course, this works best when your pet is genuinely comfortable in a busy, unfamiliar environment. I'll always do my best to get everyone, including your pet, looking their best in the same shot, but with a lot of little kids and animals in one frame, I'll be honest that it's not always a guarantee. We'll have fun with it either way!

My priority is capturing genuine moments, not padding your gallery with five nearly identical shots of the same smile just to hit a count. That said, the only images I leave out are true duplicates or ones that didn't turn out (blinking, blurry, that kind of thing). Everything else (the big smiles, the in-between giggles, the quiet moments) is yours. As a rough guide, most sessions land around 35-50 images per 30 minutes of coverage, but that number is a byproduct of doing the job well, not the goal itself.

Yes!! If you're interested in ordering professional prints you can do that right inside your digital gallery. The process is super simple and your images will be delivered directly to your doorstep! The prices are genuinely affordable and you'll have the peace of mind that your prints will have perfect color. Downloading and printing elsewhere may result in incorrect skin tones, but you are more than welcome to do so! Just keep in mind that at retail labs the machines aren't calibrated and the technicians aren't trained to make consistent professional prints with correct color, so you might see anywhere from a slight to drastic quality difference between the images you see on your screen and the prints you receive.

As a general rule, with very few exceptions, I don't release RAW or unedited images. Editing is such a core part of how I approach every session that an unedited shot just isn't a finished photo in my eyes, and I want your gallery to feel consistent from start to finish. The only things I'll ever set aside are the blurry, unusable, or duplicate shots. Everything else is yours, fully edited and ready to go.

My priority is capturing genuine moments, not padding your gallery with five nearly identical shots of the same smile just to hit a count. That said, the only images I leave out are true duplicates or ones that didn't turn out (blinking, blurry, that kind of thing). Everything else (the big smiles, the in-between giggles, the quiet moments) is yours. We've got a whole bag of tricks for this, and it varies by age. For little ones, having a favorite toy or snack on hand goes a long way, and so does giving them something to look forward to once we're done (ice cream after the session is a client favorite). It gives them a reason to hang in there a little longer when they start to wiggle. For babies and infants, I actually recommend booking a longer session, like 90 minutes, so we have room to pause for a feed or a diaper change without feeling rushed. Of course! Just bring along a second person to handle your pet during any parts of the session they're not actively in, and there's no extra charge for including them. There's no limit on how many pets you can bring, but keep in mind the more pets in the mix, the more there is to juggle, so it can be worth thinking through logistics ahead of time. A lot of clients get the photos with their dog done early in the session, then have their extra set of hands take the pup for a walk while we focus on the rest, though it works just as well flipped around. And of course, this works best when your pet is genuinely comfortable in a busy, unfamiliar environment. I'll always do my best to get everyone, including your pet, looking their best in the same shot, but with a lot of little kids and animals in one frame, I'll be honest that it's not always a guarantee. As a general rule, with very few exceptions, I don't release RAW or unedited images. Editing is such a core part of how I approach every session that an unedited shot just isn't a finished photo in my eyes, and I want your gallery to feel consistent from start to finish. The only things I'll ever set aside are the blurry, unusable, or duplicate shots. Everything else is yours, fully edited and ready to go.
