Meredith + Alec: Their Story

Alec and Meredith’s Minneapolis City Hall engagement session perfectly captured their playful connection and love for exploring the city together. Their story started unexpectedly, at a board game night with friends. Meredith had crashed the gathering, Alec was invited, and somewhere between Chinese Checkers strategy and friendly competition, something clicked. At one point, Alec used Meredith’s own strategy to leap ahead of her in the game, claiming second place while Meredith landed in third. And just like that, their “enemies to lovers” arc began.

Nearly ten years later, their relationship has grown into a life full of shared adventures. They love spending time outdoors running, biking, canoeing, and taking long walks with their energetic Bernedoodle, Bixby. Alec is known for confidently singing the wrong song lyrics, while Meredith has a habit that Alec calls a “power move,” eating the lemon slice from her drink at restaurants without flinching. 

When Alec proposed, he planned a scavenger hunt across Minneapolis. The two set out on a bike ride, exploring the city they call home. So it only felt natural for their engagement session to reflect that same sense of adventure. 

Minneapolis City Hall: What to Expect for Your Engagement Session

Meredith and Alec had originally hoped for an outdoor session, but with a classic Minnesota winter in full swing, we knew we needed indoor locations that still fit their laid-back, city-loving vibe. Instead of a traditional studio, they chose two stunning downtown spaces: Minneapolis City Hall and Hotel Emery. The bright marble interiors of City Hall gave them the light, airy feel they love, while Hotel Emery added a cozy, modern contrast. One of my favorite parts of the session was simply wandering between the two locations, snapping outdoor photos along the way and letting the city become part of their story.

The marble architecture creates the most beautiful natural light, it’s free to shoot in as a public space, and the walk between City Hall and Hotel Emery gives you so much variety in a single session.
