Whenever a couple reaches out about doing winter engagement photos in Minneapolis, we get sooo excited because we know just how magical it can be!!

Megan + Austin met when they were matched to the same lab group during their first year of college. That started an awesome friendship which blossomed to romance when Austin visited Megan in Chicago a year after graduation. After  4.5 years of dating (3 of which were long distance)!! Austin proposed at Megan’s favorite spot in their local park,  and she totally didn’t see it coming. She was so surprised she forgot to take her mittens off for him to put on the ring, haha!! And now they’re getting married at Ashery Lane Farms this summer!!

Megan and Austin’s session was a blast and the weather cooperated just perfectly to give them the snowy engagement photos of their dreams! Winter engagement photos hold major potential but can also be a bit tricky, with all the dead trees, grass, and dirty snow. To get the best photos we need to make sure we think creatively.

In the case of Megan and Austin, we were able to brainstorm locations that were best suited for winter. The thing is, lakeside, park or forest photos, while suuuper cute in the summer, just hit really differently in the winter. If you’re planning a winter engagement session you’ll want to brainstorm locations in the city where there are cool architectural elements to focus on, or natural areas with trees that look good year round. Think tall pines and christmas trees!! Then even if you don’t get a snowy winter wonderland like Megan + Austin, you still have a gorgeous landscape to work with!

When we arrived at Hansen Tree Farm for this session we started by strolling around, snapping photos of Megan + Austin walking amongst the tall pines. As the snow started falling in heavy blankets they snuggled up near the trees whispering and laughing as snowflakes started collecting on their eyelashes.
